Dillon Ate . . . Fresh Falafel and Tabouleh in Berlin

Broke in Berlin # 13

There was this place right around the corner, damn I forget the name, maybe Lady Daisey will comment it on here for us . . . but anyway they had the illest Tabouleh – doods would hook it up with extra Olive oil and lemon juice to order – - I copped it about 6 times – ha! I loved it best with the veggie pita, or as seen here, with the fresh falafel! (This one was delicious):

(Heads up – Tabouleh is generally cucumber, parsley, lemon, garlic, olive oil, and tomato)

Dillon Ate . . . some wack Falafel in Berlin

Broke in Berlin # 7

It was bound to happen. When you’re broke in Berlin, sometimes you have to roll with the punches and just eat what you see while walking home at 4 in the morning after watching Lady Daisey sing her ASS off at Bohannon! Now generally, this is where Berlin cuisine shines – late nite street food – and especially the Middle Eastern spots. I knew that a phenomenal falafel (say that out loud please) was only a block or two away. Damn yo. I was wrong.

This is a Fala"failure"

This is a Fala"failure"

  • The Falafel was microwaved when I ordered it (at 4 am) – understandable cause it was so late . . but damn . . the microwave?!
  • The Garlic Sauce was wack sauce son! I was tasting that wackness the next day . . .
  • The lettuce und salat was kinda wilty . . .
  • And wayyy to much onion – I like onion – but damn!

FAILURE!

Dillon Ate: Pizza Pide in Berlin with Batsauce & Lady Daisey

Broke in Berlin # 5

Ok – one of the dopest things about Berlin cuisine is the fusion of cultures and dishes in this international melting pot. The blend of Turkish, Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern has come up with one of my new favorite inventions – The Pizza Pide:

This ain't no Domino's, suckas.

This ain't no Domino's, suckas.

  • Pizza Pide: mit Spinat, Egg (?!), Mozzarella
  • On a crispy thin Pita crust
  • Freshly made and baked to order!

Dillon Ate: Ahi Tuna over Grains and Veggies

tunacouscousweb

So I had an Ahi Tuna steak (Wild caught) leftover from from the sessions with Dave West and I needed to flip a quick meal before I jetted out to Murphy’s to go work  (This will all take 20 minutes tops, including prep):

  • I had this delicious harvest grains blend: Israeli Couscous, Orzo, Baby Garbanzo Beans, and Red Quinoa- off the ganchos! I braised some baby carrots, garlic, onions, spinach and yellow squash in a vegetable stock and added those as well for a little extra flavor to the grains.
  • The tuna was crusted in black peppercorn and black sesame seeds, and skillet-seared in a sesame/olive oil blend.

Dillon Ate: Goat?!

Chivo

El Rey del Chivo: Chef Joe’s Goat

( Chef Joe not pictured, goat is)

Yep. I did it. It was a while back, and only for 2 mildly ravenous bites, but it was the only red meat I’ve had in a few years now, (minus one other mishap)

‘Twas at Murphy’s (mine Atlanta, Ga. place of employment) where this flick was taken, Ramon is prepping the goat for Chef Joe Schafer’s Super Bowl Party of 2008 – Pretty Gangster right? Joe has an in-ground Bar-B-Q pit in his backyard and cooked it for 8 or so hours – it was spiced Middle-Eastern style, and servedwith an absolutely banging Tabouleh, Cous Cous Salad with mint, lemon and cucumber, Pita/Hummous. Bomb. And my stomach didn’t hurt!
